NSL is a strong believer in conducting business in a socially responsible manner and places importance in environment management. This corporate spirit is reflected throughout the Group’s products, businesses, operations and services.

In the early 1990s, NSL partnered tertiary institutions to engineer slag, which is a byproduct from steel making into a premier road pavement material.

This is a sustainable business initiative as it reduces the landfill needs and at the same time converts slag into a renewable resource for the country.

NSL OilChem’s business of treating and recycling waste oil, oily sludge and slop is also in line with government’s 3R Policy of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Recovering value from oily waste reduces demand of virgin resource thereby conserving the planet’s precious natural resources.

Eastern Gotech (HK), a pioneer in sustainable and green building products in Hong Kong, develops products with the environment in mind. One of its recent energy efficient product line is E-mix Thermomix, an insulation render which provides a high strength thermal insulation render for buildings. Thermomix reduces the heat loss from buildings during cold weather and in our tropical climate, it can reduce air-conditioning energy needs with reduce heat load from the external heat.

In addition to our business and products, NSL Group is also a supporter of environmental groups and activities. Raffles Marina Club sponsors the Planetary Coral Reef Foundation (PCRF) whose vision is to stop the destruction of the world’s coral reefs and to restore their beauty, health and abundance.

NSL Ltd has been a platinum donor for the annual Semakau Run since its inaugural run in 2007.

The run, organized by National Environment Agency (NEA) raises funds to support local environmental non-governmental organizations and social service charities. This same corporate spirit is also extended to the young generation who holds the key to Singapore’s future.

Since 2004 NSL has been participating in NEA’s Corporate and School Partnership Programme. In 2007 NSL adopted Clementi Primary School for the annual Clean and Green Week exhibition.

On top of financial support, NSL works closely with the primary school students on projects such as recycling campaign and energy conservation activities. NSL hopes to develop their awareness on nature and the environment and to care and protect it.

In recognition of NSL efforts, NSL was awarded a certificate for Sustained Partnership by NEA in 2009.

In 2007, NSL worked with World Wildlife Fund to drive the message on climate change and global warming through a private movie screening of “An inconvenient truth” for our adopted primary school, our business partners and staff.
